Goat

This was a sketch from last year that I forgot to put up, just a goat pushing a box of stuff.

Chilly

Venturing into a teeny, tiny bit of colour...I still prefer plain old graphite.  Stick with what's comfortable?

Pillows

Pillows are always useful things during tantrums.  I've been enjoying rendering my sketches much more than normal recently, I think because I'm just approaching them with tone in mind rather than full blown colour (I hope this kind of confidence comes yet!).  It certainly encourages more drawing when you can get nice results fairly fast, and where it's probably not technically accurate, the idea makes me smile.  :)

Showreel 2011

Finally!  A link to my showreel.

Autumn Sun

When we're out on walks, my dog likes to stand in patches of long grass, soaking up sunshine where possible.  When I get stuck for something to draw, she provides a little bit of inspiration.  :)

Some Owls...

Everyone's into owls these days but here are mine...

FX Drip Test

Ok, this is the first bit of fx animation I've done using Flash (so go easy on me!) :)

I recently decided to brush up my skills again with Flash as it's been quite a while since I used it. I didn't really know what kind of character to animate so I opted to do some water dripping instead - after all, I have been animating various effects for over a year now.

I was pretty pleased with the results although the timing isn't right in places. It was a good exercise and I learned lots from it which I'm now using to do a short character thing, so stay tuned!

IRN BRU!

Here is what I just finished working on -

I was an FX animator for this project, animating various elements such as water and mud splashes/waves/ripples. Also animated the shadows and highlights on the characters frame by frame. This one was fun, I learned lots from it and can't wait to do more effects animation. :]

Titeuf, Le Film

While I'm in trailer-mode, here is the trailer for the Pathe produced animated feature I just recently worked on - Titeuf, Le Film.  For this project, I was producing 2-d effects animation and spot keys for characters.

Much like during The Illusionist production, I got to work with some fantastic artists and came away with some great friends.

The Illusionist

If you haven't watched the trailer for the Sylvain Chomet animated feature film, The Illusionist, please take a look just now!  It has had great reviews worldwide and received nominations for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for best animated feature film.

I really loved working on this film, I met some amazingly talented people and made some great friends.  :-)

Watercolours From Last Year

Even though most of my colouring is done digitally now, I still like to get the watercolours out every so often.  Here's a couple of pieces I made for friends, the first one is my own, the second is of course Hayao Miyazaki's Totoro characters which I don't lay claim to!  :-)

More Being Victor

Ok, here's some coloured images I created for Being Victor.  Check out Jeremy Smile at the bottom, he's my favourite.  I forgot to say in the previous post, all these images were drawn and coloured by me and are the property of Shed Media.  :-)

Being Victor

At last, an update!  I've been really busy with the day job and, in honesty, a little bit lazy at night.  So anyway, here's some new stuff - these are just a few of the character designs I created for a tv programme called Being Victor that aired at the start of September this year on MTV.  My job involved creating the character designs and scene elements which were scanned in and coloured before being handed on to my colleague who made short animations using them.  The animations appear on the blog as accompaniments for the live action series.  The art style - established by another artist - was very different to my own, so it was a good challenge for me to try something new.  A stickler for proportion and anatomy, I found it a bit disconcerting in the beginning to draw like this!  I've been eager to put some of these up for a while though, so I hope you like what you see.

And now, on to the drawings!  Thanks for looking.

El Matador! #2

I did another sketch of the Matador character for the game, tried to simplify the shapes a bit for modelling in maya/zbrush...I'm quite happy with this.

Sketchbook: August 2010 #1

Keep dreaming about a bear living in the garden where I grew up, so I think that influenced these little sketches.

Bull Run: Runner #1 #2 and #3

Quick character design ideas for a game called Bull Run that my boyfriend is working on with a mutual pal of ours.  It's based on the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Urban Red #5

Been dabbling in maya this week so didn't get as much drawing done as I'd have liked...
Here's the wee red guy playing with his burger  :-)

That girl again from June, just a quick head sketch.

Studies: Hands

A selection of some hand studies I did in May after a ridiculously long, shameful break away from drawing!  Finally got round to making a wee collage of them for the blog.

El Matador!

Another sketchbook drawing that begged for some colour.  This one was fun, hope you like it.  :-)

Urban Red #1

We have an urban fox (or possibly more than one) living very close by that likes to wake us up at odd hours of the night, this is the first of some sketches I did featuring the little beggar.

Sketchbook: July 2010 - "Talc"

Just a quick sketch of a woman...

Sketchbook: June 2010 #1

....Six months after I started this, I've finally got my act together.  So here's a doodle from my sketchbook, I did it while back home last week and coloured it up today.

Got to start somewhere...

...so this can be the first.  A bit of life drawing, not done any in well over a year so I'm a little rusty.  Seems brown parcel paper has more than one use!
